🌿 Nurturing the Mind: A Quiet Strength
In a world full of noise and constant motion, our mental health often takes a back seat. But our minds, like our bodies, need care, compassion, and attention. In this post, I explore the quiet strength that resides within us, even in our darkest moments. Through a poem, personal reflections, and tips for nurturing mental well-being, I invite you to join me on a journey of healing, resilience, and self-compassion. Together, let’s learn to embrace the power of stillness, connect with our inner peace, and find comfort in the grace of faith.
Poetry On Mental Health, Healing, and the Power of Stillness
The mind can be a fragile place,
Where shadows linger, fears embrace.
A quiet storm within my chest,
A daily battle, no time to rest.
Yet in the dark, I find the light,
A flicker soft, a tiny bright.
It whispers: You are not alone,
Through struggle, healing is sown.
There’s power in the silence, too,
In the pauses, the breaths, the view.
The weight may come, the fight may stay,
But I learn to walk, not run away.
I am not broken, though I fall,
I rise again; I stand tall.
For mental health is not defeat—
It’s a strength that grows beneath.
So, let’s speak of what we feel inside,
Share the stories we often hide.
For in each word, we find the key,
To heal, to hope, to be.
Mental Health and the Power of Resilience
Mental health is often something we don’t talk about enough, even though it touches each of us somehow. Whether it’s dealing with anxiety, depression, burnout, or simply the pressure of everyday responsibilities—mental wellness shapes how we see ourselves, how we love others, and how we show up in the world.
Caring for our minds is just as important as caring for our bodies. Sometimes, it means pressing pause, sometimes it means asking for help, and sometimes, it means giving ourselves the same patience we so often give to everyone else.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6–7
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7
A Personal Reflection
There was a time in my life when everything felt like too much. Balancing school, working long hours, being a present mother and wife, and still trying to care for myself felt overwhelming. I was stretched thin—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I can still remember the quiet moments when I’d lock myself in the bathroom to cry. Not because I wanted to hide but because I didn’t know what else to do. It was often frustration… anxiety…, and the heaviness of constantly pouring out for others while neglecting my own needs.
What I’ve learned since then is this: crying is not a weakness. Needing a moment is not failure. We weren’t created to carry everything alone. Healing began when I gave myself permission to rest, to say, “I can’t do it all today, and that’s okay.”
🌿 Green Plants & Growth
Green has become a sacred color in my life. It reminds me of renewal, patience, and quiet transformation. Just like a plant doesn’t bloom overnight, our healing doesn’t either.
There’s something therapeutic about planting something small—watching it stretch toward the light, thrive, and grow. This journey mirrors the journey of mental health. With care, time, and the right environment, we begin to feel whole again. Our growth may be slow, but it is steady.
“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”
— Pedro Calderón de la Barca
Tips for Nurturing Mental Health
Whether you’re in a season of struggle or simply seeking more peace, here are a few gentle ways to care for your mind:
Practice Self-Compassion – Speak to yourself with kindness. You don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of rest.
Prioritize Sleep – A tired mind cannot function well. Sleep is essential for emotional balance.
Create a Daily Rhythm – Even small routines help stabilize during chaotic seasons.
Talk About It – Sharing your feelings with someone safe brings light into the dark.
Move Your Body – Gentle movement releases stress and helps your mind find clarity.
Spend Time in Nature – Fresh air and green spaces soothe the nervous system.
Practice Mindfulness – Sit in stillness. Breathe. Journal. Pray. Return to the present moment.
Limit Social Media – Step back when it feels overwhelming or emotionally draining.
Seek Support – Therapy, counseling, or a trusted mentor can walk with you through hard seasons.
Final Thoughts
Mental health is a journey, not a destination. There will be highs and lows—but each step you take toward healing is a victory. Remember that you are growing, whether you’re watering your soul with scripture, sunlight, stillness, or soft words. You are healing. You are becoming.
This blog is a gentle space to explore that journey. Thank you for being here with me.
With grace and light,

Dear Writer: God Gave You That Story for a Reason
There’s a story inside you, and it’s not there by accident. God placed it there—for healing, for purpose, for someone else’s breakthrough. You may feel unqualified or unsure of where to start, but that doesn’t disqualify you. Your voice matters. Your words carry weight. And if God gave you the story, He will make a way for it to be told.
Dear Writer,
There’s a story inside you.
Maybe it keeps showing up in quiet moments—between laundry loads, while you’re rocking a baby to sleep, or during a long walk with the Lord.Maybe it’s loud some days. Or maybe it only whispers.
But it's there.
And I want you to know: God gave you that story for a reason.
You might think...
“I’m not qualified.”
“I’m too busy.”
“I don’t even know where to start.”I hear you. I’ve been you.
When I decided to start writing publicly, I didn’t know where to begin.
I hadn’t been in school in years, and my grammar was not polished at all. I felt stuck—like I couldn’t fully express the thoughts that were caving in on me. I knew the words were there, but I couldn’t shape them the way I wanted to.That’s when I realized: I had to go back to school—not because I lacked a voice, but because I wanted to sharpen the tools God had already placed inside me.
And maybe you’re in that same place right now—wondering if you’re good enough, ready enough, or smart enough. Let me remind you:
God doesn't call the qualified—He qualifies the called.
If you’ve been carrying words in your heart, that’s not an accident. That’s a seed. 🌱
He placed it there. And He knows how it will grow.
Your words have weight.
Whether you're a mom, a healthcare worker, a grandma, a wife, a poet, or just trying to keep it together—your voice matters.
Someone out there needs the story you're carrying.
Not the polished version. Not the bestseller version. The real one. The honest one.Because stories are how we heal.
And when you write from a place of truth and faith, God uses it.
Sometimes for someone else.
Sometimes for you.
Ask yourself the questions that matter.
Dr. Myles Munroe once said you should ask yourself two questions as a writer:
Why should I write?
Why should anyone want to read what I write? If you can answer those two honestly, you’ll begin writing with intention, not just emotion. You’ll stop chasing perfection and start embracing purpose.
And the beautiful truth? Your why doesn’t have to be loud. It just has to be real.
Maybe your reason is healing. Maybe it’s obedience. Maybe it’s because your story will become someone else’s breakthrough.
I’ve learned…
That God doesn’t waste anything.
Not your pain.
Not your process.
Not your pencil marks in the margins.Writing can be holy ground. Even if you're scribbling between diaper changes or shifts at work.
If He gave you the story, He will make a way for it to be told.
So here’s what I say to you today:
✍🏽 Write. Even if it’s messy.
🙏🏽 Pray. Ask Him to sit with you as you write.
🌿 Trust. You’re not behind. You’re not too late.
💛 A Blessing for You
Lord, bless the writer reading this. The one who doubts, but dares to believe. Remind them that their story carries Your fingerprints. Let them write with courage, joy, and deep peace. May their words reflect Your love and truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
🌿 Where It All Begins: Whispers of the Soul
Every story has a beginning—and mine is rooted in the whispers of the soul. In "Where It All Begins: Whispers of the Soul", I invite you into the heart of my journey as an author, a wife, a mother, and now a grandmother. From scribbling poetry on the palms of my hands to being inspired by the voices of Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, and Langston Hughes, this post reflects the foundation of my creative path. With years of study in writing, culture, psychology, and scripture, I share the moments that shaped not only my pen but my purpose. This isn’t just an introduction—it’s a quiet unveiling of why I write, who I am, and where it all began.
My Journey Into Writing, Healing, and Creating Space for Stillness
Hi, I'm so glad you're here.
My name is Luzdivina Torres, and Whispers of the Soul is a space I’ve created from the quietest parts of me—the tender places, the healing places, the ones that find peace in beauty, softness, and truth.
This isn’t just a blog. It’s a journal. A garden. A sanctuary.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. In notebooks, in the margins of books, even on napkins. And when I had nothing else nearby? I’d write on my hands so that I wouldn’t forget.
I didn’t call myself a poet back then—I just knew I had something to say. Words that needed to live outside of me. Words that made the world make sense.
🌱 My Journey as a Writer
Over time, I began to find my voice. Inspired by greats like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Mary Oliver, I realized that words could do more than describe—they could move, heal, and connect.
My journey as a writer is woven with study and soul. I’ve completed coursework in:
English Composition I & II
Politics & Culture
Sociology & Urban Sociology
Psychology I & II
Interdisciplinary and Liberal Studies
And four writing-intensive courses that shaped and refined my craft
I also spent three years in Bible study—an experience that grounded me and deepened my understanding of grace, truth, and purpose. Scripture gave me language for things I once couldn’t name. The Bible continues to inspire my writing, giving me wisdom and perspective on human nature, resilience, and the beauty of growth.
🍃 What Inspires Me
I’m endlessly inspired by nature, emotion, and the in-between places. The way light moves across a wall. The comfort of a warm drink. A single line in a book that stops me cold.
But my most profound inspiration comes from Scripture. The words of the Bible have shaped my perspective, teaching me about resilience, hope, and the transformative power of patience. The way the scripture speaks to our shared humanity—our struggles, our growth, our connection—continues to shape my work.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into stillness, planting, and green—the color that feels like renewal, patience, and everything we’re learning to give ourselves.

This blog is my place to share the small, quiet things that bloom in my world—sometimes poems, sometimes thoughts, and sometimes the in-between.
💬 Why I Started This Blog
This blog is my way of sharing more than finished poems or polished pieces. It’s where I’ll share the behind-the-scenes of my writing life, the thoughts that don’t quite fit into a poem, and the things I’m learning along the way.
Think of it as a love letter to creativity, growth, and everyday magic.
If you’re someone who feels deeply…
If you’re learning how to grow slowly…
If you’ve ever been told you were too soft or not enough—this space is for you.
Thank you for being here.
Here’s to what we’ll grow together. 🌿
With warmth and words,
